Confession and Absolution – Food Theme

These texts are part of a suite of texts on food and the environment. They evoke both literal and metaphorical feeding.

God’s hand is open, filling all living things with abundance, but we have been greedy and hard of heart.

silence is kept

Hungry for God’s forgiveness, let us confess our sins:

Holy God, we ask you to forgive us.

We have not returned your love, though you have so richly fed us.

We have not loved our neighbours,
though we are guests together at your table.

We have wasted good food
when we could have shared your plenty.

Have mercy on us, we pray,
and forgive us all our sins,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The priest says

The living God,
who is both just and generous,
forgive you all your sins
and make you messengers of justice and peace, until all the hungry are filled with good things through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
