Now we’re cooking with gas!

Although domestic gas use contributes only a small amount to the overall consumption, there are many good reasons to convert to an all-electric home: it’s better for your budget, your health and also the environment. By disconnecting from the gas supplier, it reduces their social license. It isn’t only lefty hippies on the bandwagon – my bank sent me a link to their helpful web resources!

Consider replacing your home heating, your stove and your water heater. It might be expensive to change all of these at the same time, but you could start with one that is nearly due for replacement. Once you have eliminated all gas appliances (other than perhaps your trusty barbeque) you can disconnect.

All of these benefits also apply to your parish and workplace, and grants for small businesses were announced earlier this year. However, Round 1 of applications have closed – please let us know if you have any experience in applying

The NorthWest Shelf Project is one of the largest LNG projects in the world. It also produces domestic gas and LPG. It is planned to cease operations within the next decade as current gas fields become depleted. This schedule is consistent with achieving our Global warming targets, and there are better energy sources than gas already available, affordable and scalable.

So why is there a move to extend the project until 2070?

Recent news has highlighted allegations that the Environmental Protection Agency may have been muzzled, and the recent retraction of the landmark 2021 Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act raise concerns that our governments may be reluctant to allow this potential revenue source to take it’s natural course of attrition.
